THE NUTRAMENT SHOOT A BALL & NOT A GUN

JOE WHITE CLASSIC

The Nutrament Shoot a Ball & Not a Gun Joe White Classic All Star event is an all star tournament that features the top 48 basketball players in the UK. The annual event takes place every year at Crystal Palace National Sports Arena and this year it will be taking place on the 26th and 27th of May 2007. The event gives these top athletes the chance to express themselves in a game that during the regular season is made very serious, it gives them the chance to be recognized by there pairs for there hard work and put on a show to help inspire others to get involved in the exciting sport that is basketball.

The event not only showcases the top 48 basketball players in the UK but it also the top up and coming music acts and dancers the UK has to offer. This year there will also be the first all star celebrity game which will feature artists such Choong Family MOBO award winners, akala MOBO award winner,G Range, Roll Deep, N Dubz and many more...

This event was setup by Mike Baptiste (ex England international player under 18s and London Towers player), Errol Bigby (BBSports/Entertainment Partner) and Richard Fergus (Head Coach of White Heat Basketball club).

The tournament is part of an on going anti gun crime campaign "Shoot a Ball & Not a Gun". The campaign was setup Mr Baptiste and Mr Bigby to help combat against youth and gang related crime within the local communities within the UK.

Sport is believed to be the most powerful instrument we have got to combat crime as it is a very good outlet and activity that can help us get messages across to our younger generations that we wouldn't normally have the chance to interact with in such a way.

port is the one THING where it does’t matter of your background, social class or ethnic minority but on your ability. Sport helps give its participants a sense of belonging and self-esteem where it is lacking. Through sport people from all social classes, religions and ethnic minorities come together as one and unite as teams to work together and helping each other achieve there proposed target (e.g. scoring a goal, winning the game). This is why we believe that sport is the best instrument to teach our younger generation about working together as a sports team and when the games are finished as a community?

joewhiteThe tournament is also put on in the memory of the Late Great Joseph White. Joe's outstanding work within the youth community inspired so many people and for this reason we at BBSports/Entertainment and TJF Productions were proud to put on such a power event like this.

Many of the players playing in this event have some way been touched by Joe's presences whether it has been him coaching them or just inspiring words told to them to keep them on the right path.

Joe's work is being continued in the communities by so many of the youth he mentored and this tournament gives all a chance to part of the the solution rather than being a spectator of the problem.

With the support from the local popular celebrities such as Kat from Choice FM it makes the campaign stand out. This event is put together alongside a series of events to help communicate with our youth on the effects of gun and gang crime in our local communities.

The Nutrament Shoot a Ball & Not a Gun Tournament has found sponsorship through Nutrament Energy and Protein Drink, New Era Fitted Caps, Molten Sports, EA Sports, Southpole Clothing, Taut Drinks, Nandos and Young Voices Magazine.
